Sharing shipments with your shipping partners in Turvo gives you the ability to connect and collaborate in real time. Once a shipment is shared, any updates you make to certain fields will automatically update the shipment in shared tenants as well. This gives your shipping partners the most up-to-date information on shipments without having to manually contact them.
This article covers:
- How sharing is enabled
- How information is shared
- Shipment information shared by experience

Enable sharing with your partners
For those shipping partners that are ready to manage their workflows and collaborate in Turvo, they’ll first need their own Turvo tenant before sharing can be enabled on a shipment.
Protip: If some of your partners don’t have a Turvo tenant, you can also share shipments via the Links section of the Sharing tab. See our Help Center article to learn how to create and share Turvo links.
You'll know that you are working with a connected Turvo tenant when your customer or carrier account has a small blue Turvo icon in the lower right of their profile icon.
If a customer or carrier account does not have the blue Turvo icon, you have the ability to invite your shipping partners to join you in the Turvo network for free using our Self-service Networking feature! For more information around sending invites to your partners, see our article on Self-service Networking.
Note: Self-service networking can be used to invite carrier or customer accounts to join you in the Turvo Network. If self-service networking isn’t enabled for your tenant and you’d like to invite your partners to join you on Turvo, reach out to Turvo Support. See our article to learn how to submit a support ticket.
Overview of how information is shared
When a shipment is shared in Turvo, a unique copy of that shipment is created for your shipping partners to view with information that is relevant to them, based on their experience (customer, LSP, or carrier). If an update is made to shared information on a shipment in your tenant, that update will share with the other connected shipping partners on the shipment.
The basic sharing logic used to share shipments among shipping partners can be described as “perspective sharing.” This means that when a shipment is shared, specific fields within a shipment change based on who is viewing the shipment, or according to the viewer's perspective.
For example, a customer on a shipment does not typically need to know who the exact carrier is, because they are working with the logistics service provider (or LSP) who takes care of finding a carrier to execute the shipment. Therefore, when a shipment is shared from a logistics service provider to a customer, the LSP will appear as the carrier because from their customer’s perspective, the LSP is in charge of the shipment execution.
The same happens with costs and other information. Costs that the customer owes to the LSP will appear as carrier costs on the shipment, because they are payable to the LSP and the LSP appears as the carrier on the shipment.
Similarly, the carrier typically doesn’t need to know the exact customer on the shipment, because they work with the LSP. So if a shipment is shared with a carrier, the LSP appears as the Customer because, from their perspective, the LSP is their customer.
Shipment information shared by experience
Depending on the method of enablement and the relationship with your shipping partner, different shipment information is shared. Below, we’ve split the shipment sharing experience by relationship and tab of the shipment.
Logistics Service Provider <> Customer sharing
Below is the information available in the Details tab of a shipment, broken down by the Shipment block, Customers block, and Carriers block. Each section contains an infographic and chart describing how the segments within each block are shared from an LSP tenant to a customer tenant.
Shipment block
Shipment block segment |
How it shares |
IDs |
Exact information shares |
Additional attributes |
Additional attributes can be configured to be shareable. If the shipment is shared with a tenant that doesn’t have the same field configured, then the additional attribute is read-only. |
Margin |
Customers will only see their costs. |
Equipment needed |
Exact information shares |
Route |
By default, the LSP will be shown as the carrier, and all other information shares exactly. For example, if logistics service provider Regression Broker shares shipment 123456-ABC with Ship Shoppe, Regression Broker will be listed as the carrier in the Route segment, regardless of the carrier performing the shipment. |
Operated by |
If your customer needs to see the actual carrier executing the shipment, Operated by can be used. See our Managing carrier information sharing, rating, and booking preferences for your customers article for more information. |

Account owner |
Customer account owners share as carrier contacts. Protip: You can also view contacts in the Contacts tab of the shipment. |
Note: Deleting the customer from a shipment will not cancel the shipment in the customer’s tenant and is not recommended. If you need to cancel a shipment, be sure to move the shipment to a Canceled status and create a new one.
Carriers block
The Carriers block of a shipment breaks down the information associated with the carrier assigned to a shipment. However, when a shipment is shared with a customer, carrier details such as IDs, costs, payments, contacts, driver, equipment used, and account owner are not shared. Rather, information from the Customers block transfers to the Carriers block because (from the perspective of the customer), the LSP is executing the shipment. More detailed sharing information can be found in the infographic and chart below.
Note: To share the carrier operating a shipment with customers, see our How to share the carrier operating a shipment with your customer article for more information.

Other accounts
The Other accounts that may be listed at the bottom of your shipment encompass the other entities that can be involved in the planning and execution of order and shipments such as suppliers, buyers, consignees, etc. Other accounts added to a shipment are grouped by account type (ie Sellers, Buyers, etc.):
When shipments are shared with your customers with Other accounts attached, the names and IDs associated with the Other accounts share, but the Contacts field does not share.
Protip: For more information around Other accounts and the information shared when Other accounts are added to shipments, see our How to create and use Other accounts in Turvo article.

Other accounts
Similar to the sharing experience with customers, the names and IDs associated with attached Other accounts are shared when a shipment is shared with a carrier, but the Contacts field does not.
For more information around Other accounts and the information shared when Other accounts are added to shipments, see our How to create and use Other accounts in Turvo article.
Additional shipment tabs and how they share
Timeline tab
The Timeline tab on a shipment captures important activity and changes as the shipment moves throughout its journey. When the shipment is shared with your customer, carrier, or other accounts, the exact information is shared.
Note: Updates made by users outside of the tenant the shipment is being viewed in will show as “Turvo System Bot”.
Orders tab
Only orders that have been shared with the other tenant will appear in the Orders tab for quick reference. If your shipping partner’s tenant does not have orders enabled, or sharing hasn’t been enabled on the orders linked to the shipment, this tab will be blank.
Protip: For more detailed information on how orders share to your partners in Turvo, see our Understanding order sharing in Turvo article.
Documents tab
Documents created or uploaded in the Documents tab of a shipment only share with other tenants if sharing is enabled on the document itself. For more information on adding, sharing, and sending documents on your shipments in Turvo, see our Add, share, or send a document in a shipment article.
Notes tab
Notes added to the shipment’s Notes tab will only be shared to other tenants if sharing is enabled on the note itself. To enable sharing on a note, hover over the note and click the lock icon. Then, select the appropriate accounts from the drop-down menu and click APPLY to save your changes.
Contacts, Sharing, Carriers, and Tasks tabs
The information shown in the Contacts, Sharing, Carriers, and Tasks tabs of a shipment are not shared with customer, carrier, or other accounts associated with the shipment.
Post updates
Post updates made on shipments are shared to customer and carrier accounts with the updated status, location, time, and date information. Notes within a shipment update only share with a customer or carrier if sharing is toggled on by clicking the lock icon and selecting the company from the drop-down.
Note: Odometer readings entered while making shipment post updates are not shared.
