Video: Auto-rate demo

This video is a demonstration of how rates on a shipment can be automatically calculated, and even re-rated, once applicable rules are in place. Auto-Rate Demo covers auto-rating the customer billable costs as soon as the shipment is created, and how carrier payable costs can caluculate as soon as the carrier is added. Read the rest of the article to learn more about the example rules used in the video.

Autopilot rules & configurations used in the demo

There are two autopilot rules, and one configuration enabled in the Auto-Rate Demo. Take a closer look at each of them below to get a better idea of what was set up.

Admin console > Rules > Shipments > Autopilot rules

This first autopilot rule means When A shipment is created AND the Customer Is Gemini Automotive, Inc. THEN Rate the customer billable costs using Global rates or Contracts rates. If both a global rate and contract rate apply, then the contract rate will be used.

The second autopilot rule applies When A shipment is updated AND the Shipment status Is Tendered, Covered, Dispatched, At pickup, Picked up, OR At delivery, THEN Rate customer billable costs based on Global rates or Contracts rates AND Rate carrier payable costs based on Global rates or Contracts rates. If both a global rate and contract rate apply, then the contract rate will be used.

Admin console > Rules > Shipments > Configurations > Rating

The rating configuration is also in the Rules tile of Admin console. This configuration is a tenant-wide option, so it will apply to all shipments with a matching carrier contract. When enabled, carrier costs will automatically be added to a shipment when a matching carrier contract exists.

Protip: See our article, How to assign a contracted carrier rate to a shipment, to learn more about manually and automatically assigning carrier rates to shipments.

Note: Turvo uses the settings in your tenant’s Admin console > Settings > Shipments > Rating segment to determine which contract or global rate is “preferred” and should be used on the shipment. To learn more about configuring the Rating settings, see our Help Center article on Understanding and updating tenant settings.
